Ridge Soaring Clinic
In this clinic, we will discuss soaring in the smooth, sweet lift produced
by ocean breezes against out local cliffs and hills. We will look at the
ridge soaring pattern, thorough preflight, how to cliff launch, top land,
kite in high winds, identify rotor and terrain clearance considerations.
First observing the day's weather pattern
from information available on the web, radio and phone, we will then visit
one or more of the local ridge soaring sites including the Douglas Family
Preserve (Wilcox), Bates, More Mesa or Happy Canyon. After a discussion
about the specific site and it's characteristics, you will be invited
to launch under the radio guidance of an instructor in a ridge soaring
flight
